Computer Tips

1. Google Tool Bar:

Today, many will agree that Google is one of the most powerful search engines on the Internet. Using the the Google toolbar helps enhance your interaction with it as well as gives you many other features. Get the Google toolbar at: http://toolbar.google.com.

Google toolbar tips: Quickly access the Google Toolbar by pressing ALT+G or open a new browser window with the results by pressing Shift+Enter

2. iGoogle as your  Home Page

Set your default homepage to iGoogle. A fantastic service from Google that enables users to have all relevant information they're interested in on their home page. Customizing this page you can set such settings as displaying your local weather, stocks, news, Facebook page, Twitter page, RSS feeds from your most popular pages, movies, and much more all on one page. To access this feature follow the below steps.

  1. Open the main Google page.
  2. In the top right portion of the Windows click the iGoogle link. Note: This link will not be visible unless you're logged into Google.
  3. Once you've customized your own personalized iGoogle page set your home page as the iGoogle link or if you like the service but don't want it as your home page bookmark it

3. Tabbed Browsing tips

With the introduction of Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 all major browsers now support tabbed browsing. Below are various tips to improve your browsing using tabs.

  1. Clicking on any link with your middle mouse button or wheel will open that link in a new tab. Alternatively you can hold down your CTRL key in IE and Firefox and click a link to open that link in a new tab.
  2. Clicking on an open tab with your middle mouse button will close that tab.
  3. Mozilla Firefox users can middle-click the back button to open a previous page in a new tab.
  4. Pressing CTRL + T will open a new tab in IE, Firefox, and Opera.
  5. Pressing CTRL + Shift + T will undo the closed tab. Alternatively right clicking on a portion of the tab bar will also display this option.
  6. Firefox and IE users can hold down CTRL and press 1 through 0 on their keyboard to open that respected tab.
  7. Right-clicking the active tab will give you an option to close all other non-active tabs.
